The expedition descends deeper beneath the impossible tree as the boundary between memory, biology, and consciousness continues collapsing around them.

Ethan Graves struggles with visions that do not belong to him while the glowing cavern beneath the rainforest begins responding directly to the team’s presence. Strange patterns emerge within the walls. The blue light intensifies. And the deeper they travel, the more the environment itself appears alive.

Karen realizes the entity connected to the tree may not simply preserve fragments of life.

It may be evolving through them.

As fear spreads through the expedition, Molly begins experiencing subtle psychological and biological changes that no one fully understands yet. The rainforest is no longer observing the team.

It is integrating them.

And somewhere in the darkness below, an ancient intelligence is beginning to open its eyes.

Chapter one A Soul Released As the years passed, the true nature of Demon Claw revealed itself in horrifying ways. Those who came into contact with it suffered a gradual decay of the body, a slow deterioration that defied every medical explanation. And so, the once promising dig site became cursed ground, abandoned, shunned, whispered about only in fragments. Among the victims was a devoted father named Marcus. He had spent his life pursuing knowledge. Now he was dying from it. Demon Claw had wrapped itself around his lower bowel like a living fist, squeezing the life from his organs slowly, relentlessly. As Marcus lay on his deathbed, his son Ethan stood beside him. Tears streamed down the young man's face. Through half open eyes, Marcus sensed his son's anguish. He wanted to comfort him, wanted to speak, wanted to move, but the curse had severed the connection between his mind and body. All Marcus could do was suffer and watch Ethan suffer beside him. In those final moments, memories flooded through him, laughter, warm sunlight, the touch of his wife's hand. The future they once believed would last forever. Now there was only pain, only darkness, only the slow collapse of everything he loved. Then the number returned. 86, 400, 87, 86,487. Again, and again, and again. The number echoed through his mind like a ritual, a memory that refused to die. Pastel colors drifted behind his eyes. Lavender filled the room. Soft, sweet, wrong. He remembered the day he opened the vial. The liquid inside shimmered unnaturally, moving in rhythm with the final chemical reactions of dying flesh. Bright light flooded the room, reflecting from the ebony tusks shadowed along the walls. Relics from another time, another place. Visual energy spiraled through the air. Memories escaped like fragments of smoke. Soul and body slowly separating. Ethan felt it, the essence of lives once lived, returning to something vast, something eternal. As Marcus's life faded, Ethan gripped his father's hand tighter, desperate for comfort, desperate for a sign. But there was nothing. Demon Claw had claimed another victim, leaving behind only silence and regret.
